Time for Catching Up

Often times life has a way of changing your plans.  The last time I wrote in this journal we were leaving Port Aransas on Mustang Island, TX, in the Gulf of Mexico with the full intention of heading north and then east.

We did head north and visited friends in the Austin, TX area and then on to Granbury to visit Jim’s delightful cousin and his adorable wife.

We experienced some hefty storms, which always make me uncomfortable, but we survived. However, the prognosis of the weather for our trip heading north was not good. We had hopes of visiting Oklahoma, South Dakota (our new home town), and make our way toward the east coast. But the thunderstorms and tornado warnings were formidable.

At this same time, Jim’s Mom and brother were both experiencing declining health back in Washington State. One of the beauties of this lifestyle, is it allows us to change our plans to do what we feel we need and want to do. We felt it was important to head back up to the Pacific Northwest and help out with the family as best we could.

That was about eight months ago and we are just now getting back on the road. I will write about the various places we visited during our time in Washington, but wanted to bring you all up to date quickly.

It was a rough summer for us. Loma Butler, Jim’s Mom, passed away in July at 97 and his brother Don died in September at the age of 78. We were glad we could be there for both of them and to help out the rest of the family.

Since we were already near family on both sides, we decided to spend the Holidays in Washington. So we stayed through Christmas in some of the coldest weather I’ve ever experienced in the Seattle area. Then we headed out again on Dec. 27.

Now our adventure continues as we hit the road again and venture out to pick up where we left off. I’m happy to share our experiences with you and let you realize a bit of the gypsy life that we are living right now.

So stay tuned for more sharing of life on the road. We’re happy to have you along for the ride.

  1. Hi Chris and Jim,

Glad to see you both survived the terrible ordeal last year. Enjoy being back on the road, and may your journey continue blissfully.
All well here in France. Our life’s seem’s to be a mix of gardening and playing golf, so the days just flies away. Spring arrived in March and the temperature has now gone up to the mid seventies. Just love these sunny days here in the south/west.
Bye for now and take care
    Love Gitte

    • Thanks Gitte, It was a rough year and we’re trying to get back into the swing of things. Glad things are going well for you in France. Have a great Spring and Summer!

    • No, we’ve just been laying low in Nv for a while. Heading out for the Oregon Coast tomorrow though. Looking forward to getting out of the heat!

  2. Hi All – I am a single female pending retirement in December and thinking about heading out all alone. I am just starting to learn, read, research and look at my options (Class C, or truck and pull a small trailer). I know NOTHING! But want to be free. Free to go where I want, when I want and without material possessions weighing me down. A friend sent me this website. But I see there has been no articles/blogs or activity since 2014!!! What happened?? Where’d you go?? Its been TWO years…Please come back and start up again…or at least tell us where you’ve been hiding for the last two years.
    Thanks. Kim in PA

    • Hi Kim,
You’re absolutely right. I have been negligent in my blogging and plan to remedy that soon. We’ve had some bumps along the way, but are still RVing and I will share our adventures going forward. Just to let others know, you and I have had a private email exchange and you asked me some questions you have about getting ready to take to the road full time. I will do my best to answer as many as I can. You’ve given me good fuel for more blogs. I will be answering your questions in the RVers blog side of the site.
Thanks for your interest in the site, cb
